Day Summary
- Relaxing Drive
- Nap
- Dinner
Heidelberg
We woke up to a cloudy, rainy morning — which was actually ok, considering most of our morning would involve driving.
We were sad to leave.
Breakfast
I found a top rated breakfast spot on our way out of Heidelberg.
It was still raining, but we opt’d to sit outside under an umbrella. Temperature was perfect and we enjoyed the nice relaxing breakfast.

Drive to Freudenberg
Some of us were still tired - or pretending to be tired

Freudenberg
WOW - what a beautiful city.
Closed on Sundays
We knew this ahead of time, almost all businesses are closed on Sundays in Germany. It’s meant to be a day of rest.
I’m sure the town is more lively Tues-Sat…it was kind of like a ghost town. But actually, a day of rest is just what we needed at this point in the trip.

Exploring the City and Photos
While we waiting for the hotel reservation to allow us to enter (it was all automated with codes), we decided to explore the city.

I probably took the most photos, of any day of the trip, during this period. Here are just a few.

Flecker Hotel
- amazing
- great host
- cozy feeling but a very spacious “apartment” like room with kitchen
- loved learning about the history of the building and the town

The hotel was renovated and decorated very well.

The hotel room was perfect. Just watch your head!

Ice Cream
We headed out for some more exploring and decided to curb some hunger with some ice cream.

I opt’d for a beer — the second half of this trip has afforded me a lot more time to relax and enjoy.

Lori said when she went to order, no one spoke English! After a bit, a woman came and took over the ordering — speaking near fluent English.
Later the same woman stopped by our table outside and chatted with us about where we were from, traveling to, etc. I got to practice German, she “practiced” English - was really nice.
Turns out, she and her husband opened/took-over the Café and were now running it full time!
People
One of my favorite things to do on vacation is talk with people and hear/share stories.
Germans are not typically known for small-talk…and are known for appreciating efficiency. Getting someone to engage (converse for more than a direct response), while you are stumbling through your German, is actually quite difficult!
Nap
After our little snack break, we came back to the hotel, checked in and got situated.
We decided to watch a little TV and ended up taking a little power-nap!
Dinner
We took a recommendation about pizza from the kebab place down the road.
At first I thought, “pizza from kebab?” But then I noticed the name was “Flecker Kebabhaus” and I figured there must be a relation…
We didn’t exactly have a lot of options…so pizza it was!
German
At the kebab restaurant, no one spoke (or wanted to try speaking) English!
Another time where I got to put my German to use!

Pizza
The pizza was ok.
Photos of Freudenberg
After dinner, Tyler and I ventured to a park area that looked over the city.

Just like Heidelberg , I had done my research on photo locations.
After a short hike, we found our way to a park with a beautiful view of the city.
We got some amazing sunset photos and wide angles of the city.

Tyler grabbed this awesome shot from a slightly different location, making it look like a miniature model of a city.

Last Night in Germany
This was our last night in Germany.
The next day we are off to Amsterdam for a couple days before flying home.
Quote of the Day
We never recorded a quote of the day in Freudenberg. There wasn’t any extreme event, mishap, or near-death experience!
However, if I had to say…we all collectively agreed the city was amazing… so:
This city is beautiful! -- Everyone
