Munich Morning
Breakfast at the Hotel
Max and I went to Breakfast.
Breakfast
I understand the concept of hotel buffets and somewhat understand (justify) the cost structure / convenience ratio.
We had some amazing breakfast food on this trip…so, spending $35/person on a hotel buffet was a small regret for this part of the trip.
Lori and Tyler slept in and unfortunately missed breakfast.
Day in Munich
Walking around Marienplatz
Today was the first day without any real plans or commitments. We decided to do some touristy things and just take it easy. We geared up and headed for Altstadt (Old Town) area.
I was quite surprised how much time we spent just walking around exploring. Lots of VERY old and modern things combined.
By no means do these photos do this area justice, but here are a few we took.

Viktualienmakt
Munich has a wonderful “food market” near downtown. Or, as we would call it in the midwest - “farmer’s market”.
Food, drinks, fresh produce…you could spend a couple hours just hanging out here.

Heilig Geist
Heilig Geist is a 14th century gothic church in downtown Munich. There are several churches like this, all within walking distance. Amazing. And to think these were all built by hand, without modern day tools, cranes, etc.
Way to go Tyler and nailing some amazing photos inside the church!

Shopping in Marienplatz
We did a bit more shopping this day: souvenirs for friends/friends and a few things for ourselves.
I had the chance to speak more German - several of the shop owners did not want to speak English.
I bought a lederhosen for an upcoming trip back to Germany (and attending Oktoberfest).
PICTURE MISSING
Whoops, there doesn’t seem to be a picture of me in my lederhosen. Darn!

Lunch at Hacker-Pschorr in Marienplatz
We grabbed a very quick lunch right in Marienplatz at Hacker-Pschorr.
Pronunciation
I didn’t know this until learning German, the correct pronunciation is:
“Hacker・puh・Shore” (unlike English, you pronounce the “p”)
After lunch we had some time to burn while waiting for a tour…so we took a bunch of silly photos in Marienplatz.
Here’s a normal one of us - I guess, other than the fact 3 of us our burning our retinas by not wearing sunglasses and we also have on long sleeves.
Lori appears to be the only normal one.

WWII Walking Tour
This wasn’t planned, but Lori really wanted to go on a WWII walking tour. We found a Third Reich tour and booked that for the afternoon.
The temperature was really not that high, but it felt like it was 100F. We must have just not been used to the sun yet.
Our tour guide was well into his 80’s, very knowledgable, but walked fast!
He walked SOOOO fast.
The tour was very informative. For a history buff, it was amazing to be in so many places that were key moments in the beginning of WWII.
The tour ended up being 2.5hrs… so by the time we were done, we were exhausted, hot, and sweaty.

Evening in Munich
We made our way back to the hotel to shower, change, and head to dinner.
Dinner
Had such a great time the previous night at Hofbräukeller Biergarten we decided to go again.
We didn’t take many pictures during dinner, but managed to get a shot of the pretzel pizza!

Back to the Hotel
Back to the ( Hilton Munich City ) to relax and plan day 6!
Crazy the trip is almost half over already.

Booking for Tomorrow
Our plans for tomorrow are to head to Tübingen, which is a middle point to our destination for Friday (Stuttgart).
However, we still didn’t have a hotel booked.
I had spent part of the day looking…and was starting to get worried - EVERYTHING was booked - even nearby towns.
I started looking at VRBO / AirBnB - and even they were booked. I did end up finding a place, not big, but looked adequate, that should be good enough for one night.
Booked!Quote of the Day
Oh my gosh, he’s walking so fast…why is he walking so fast? We’ve lost half the people in our group.
