Day Summary
- BMW Museum
- Walk through Altstadt
- Dinner by River
Thursday Morning
Breakfast
Breakfast - Hilton Munich City - Buffet
All four of us made breakfast today!
We had a rental car to pick up, so we packed up all our luggage, checked out of the hotel, and headed to the rental facility, at another hotel across town.
Rental Car
Originally thinking we would explore more of Munich, I had reserved the rental car for 4pm.
Naturally, the car wasn’t ready yet.
Rather than walk around the area near the train station for 5 hours… Lori suggested we check out the BMW Museum , near their world headquarters. I agreed.
We left our luggage at concierge and hopped into a taxi. We didn’t tell the kids, so the 20 minute ride went by quickly, while they tried to guess the destination.
BMW Museum
BMW Museum 11:30 - 3:00m
Wow - this place was cool!

So many cool cars…

and history

Lunch - Future Cafe
Way to go Lori on the stellar suggestion! We both agreed, the museum was pretty cool.

Drive to Tübingen
We grabbed a taxi ride back to the hotel/rental facility and we got our rental without any issue.
On our way to Tübingen!
I wish I could say something eventful happened, but it was just a nice afternoon drive.

Evening in Tübingen
I have to preface this section with: I picked Tübingen for a few specific reasons:
- Beautiful Altstadt (old town) area
- River / restaurants
- Proximity to Stuttgart (which we were headed to the next day)
But WOW - this little town surpassed expectations.
Our accommodations however…
VRBO
We arrived at the VRBO and were immediately disappointed.
VRBO - (out of respect for privacy, omitting photos/details)
- Weird one-way alley streets, several blocked by cars
- Couldn’t find the parking space (which was paid for extra)
- Hallway was pitch black with no lights
- Couldn’t find any laundry room
- No sheets for any beds
After a long day, this wasn’t the warm welcoming we were hoping for - but oh well… it’s Europe!
Lori was not amused, and no amount of convincing her that it’ll be fine…would it be fine.
Eric…I love you…but there are no sheets on the bed.
I couldn’t argue there… so I thought it best to get away from it for a bit and see the REASON we came here… the city.
Dinner
Something I know about the family, when people start getting hungry - all other activities stop, and we immediately find food .
I had my eye on a place along the Neckar River - it was close by, so we headed right there.
Dinner - Fischer’s Neckarmüller
- everyone loved their food
- Max had käse spaetzle (cheesy noodle)
- I enjoyed the Ofenfrische Weissbier-Haxe (pork knuckle) - Yum!

Not much was said at dinner. But the menu was fun to read.

Walk through Altstadt
With stomachs full, everyone was in a more lively mood and we enjoyed walking around the city.

This was how a lot of our downtime was spent.
- Dad: admiring architecture and culture
- Lori: taking in scenes, shops, views
- Kids: “where are we going? what are we doing now?”

Fun fact
Believe it or not, Max does not like ice cream.
The Altstadt area was awesome at sunset. Tables for wine in the marktplatz, cobblestone roads, half-timbered homes. Beautiful.

Evening Recap and Plans For Tomorrow
Another day in the books, and we’re past the half-way point of the trip.
Despite the hiccup with the VRBO, we had an amazing evening.
There were, maybe, fewer words spoken to one-another…but that was ok!
We loved Tübingen.
A memorable evening for sure. A gorgeous little college town, SUPER quiet, a chill evening walking around, taking photos… just what we needed before tomorrow.
Booking for Next Day
Similar to today, I didn’t book accommodations ahead of time because I wasn’t sure if we’d stay here one night or two.
Looking throughout the day…I was beginning to get worried again…everything nearby was booked .
However, wise not to repeat today’s mixup…I sent Lori a few options for hotels and asked her to pick one.
She picked this trendy, jungle themed boutique hotel…not far from Stuttgart downtown - so we should be all set! (or so we thought).
Quote of the Day
Eric…I love you…but there are no sheets on the bed.
